City Lab to host art exhibition celebrating twinning link

Derby City Lab is preparing to host an exhibition by Artcore, which celebrates and explores the city’s twinning link with Osnabruck.

Earlier this year, Artcore partnered with Kunstraum Hase29, a gallery in the German city, for the Building Bridges residency.

In May, two artists from Derby, Caroline Ainsworth and Martin Hyde, spent a week exploring Osnabruck and creating artwork, which reflected on the various points of references between the two cities and as a bridge between the two communities in addition to their personal experience of being immersed in a new culture.

The Building Bridges residency acted as a platform for intercultural exchange as Osnabrück artists, Eva Grüter and Vivian Blum, visited Derby as part of the residency.

During the original exhibition launch at Artcore Gallery in early August, Eva and Vivian presented a performance piece that echoed themes of intimacy and the body in space.

The exhibition closes at Artcore on Saturday – but from Wednesday 30 August to 7 September, it will relocate to Derby City Lab, which is in St James’s Street.

Martin and Caroline’s work will be on display, while Eva and Vivian’s performance will be digitally showcased at the city lab.

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “We are thrilled that the Derby City Lab will be hosting this fascinating exhibition.

“Derby and Osnabruck have been twinned since 1976 – and through the work of some very talented artists, this exhibition explores what we both have in common today.”
