City lab to host crematorium plan feedback session

Derby City Lab is set to host an in-person feedback session on behalf of Derby City Council on plans for a new purpose-built crematorium at Markeaton.

The session, which will take place at the Market Hall venue on Saturday 3 October, from 10am to 1pm, is part of wider public consultation on the future of Markeaton Crematorium.

The crematorium has served the people of Derby since it opened in 1956, supporting residents at an important time in their lives.

According to the council, almost 70 years on, the existing building layout and facilities are becoming dated following decades of use.

Now, it has an opportunity to create a new facility that is designed around the needs of families, staff, and the wider community to make it fit for the future.

Councillor Ndukwe Onuoha, the city council’s cabinet member for Streetpride, parks and leisure, said: “The consultation is about giving residents, visitors, stakeholders and businesses the opportunity to help shape what the future looks like.

“We want residents to take a look at the proposals and tell us what they think to ensure that the new crematorium is a place that reflects the needs of our city.”
