Derby City Lab set to stage creative showcase

Visitors to the Derby City Lab will be encouraged to get hands-on when it hosts a pop-up event that will showcase some of the city’s most talented creatives.

The lab, in St James’s Street, has teamed up with CRZyBest to stage ‘CRZyBest & Friends at Derby City Lab’.

Opening on Tuesday 19 September, the two-week event brings together creatives who use both traditional and new materials and processes, to produce their creations.

As well as displaying and selling their work, they will also perform demonstrations and run hands-on workshops where visitors to the lab will be able to make their own things.

The pop-up event follows an exhibition called Burning Bridges, which began at the city lab last month and ended on 7 September.

The exhibition featured work by Derby artists exploring the city’s twinning link with Osnabruck, in Germany.

CRZyBest was founded in 2017 by Claire Zwozny-Bestwick, an eco-friendly silversmith and sculptor, who creates bespoke sculptures using precious metal and clay and turning them into jewellery, gifts, accessories and alternative bouquets.

Claire said: “Thank you so much to Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab for giving me this opportunity to support others and bring local businesses together, to collaborate in this exciting pop-up event.

“I hope the people of Derby will enjoy visiting CRZyBest & Friends at Derby City Lab just as much as we are looking forward to taking part in it.”

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Claire and the creative community to Derby City Lab.

“Derby has a thriving creative community – and the lab will provide the perfect setting in which they can showcase their work – not to mention their skills.”

The event will run from Tuesday 19 September to Sunday October 1.
