Marketing Derby has launched a search for front of house ‘lab assistants’ to work at the forthcoming new incarnation of its award-winning Derby City Lab.

Established in 2022, the lab is a public/private partnership involving the inward investment agency, along with organisations including Derby City Council and the University of Derby.

Its purpose is to engage the wider community in better understanding the evolution of the city and investment pipeline.

Originally based in St James’s Street, from February, the lab will open in an exciting new city centre location – and Marketing Derby is now offering the opportunity for individuals to work there and help spread the word about Derby’s regeneration story.

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “We are thrilled to be recruiting for front-facing paid positions as part of the exciting new chapter for the lab.

“We are looking for a people person who is passionate about the development of Derby and able to provide a first-class, engaging visitor experience.”

Based on the concept of Urban Rooms in cities such as London, Amsterdam and Shanghai, the Derby City Lab houses the City Living Room as well as the new Derby City Model, which will be unveiled in February.

It hosts a rolling programme of dynamic exhibitions and discussion groups focused on ideas to regenerate Derby.

Marketing Derby is looking for candidates to work front-of-house, providing a first-class visitor experience by engaging with members of the public on the development of the city centre, helping them navigate various areas of the lab and obtaining comments.

Suitable applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a friendly approach and be a confident person who is interested and enthusiastic about the development of Derby city centre.
