Lab to support children’s book appeal once again
As part of Derby Book Festival’s forthcoming Autumn Edition event, Derby City Lab will once again be acting as a location for a children’s book drop.
The festival’s Autumn Edition is set to take place from Friday 15 to Monday 18 November.
Throughout this time, the Derby City Lab, which can be found on Level 2 of the Derbion shopping centre, will be one of a number of locations accepting pre-loved children’s books
Lab staff will also be happy to take in donations before these dates.
The biannual book appeal aims to collect good quality, pre-loved books from the people of Derby and redistribute them to children and families through schools, nurseries, childminders and food banks.
In the summer, more than 800 books were distributed to 26 schools in Derby to pass on to children.
Throughout the Autumn Edition people are invited to donate gently used, pre-loved books suitable for primary school children.
Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “I’m delighted that the lab can once again support this worthwhile appeal.
“In the past, we have collected over 1,400 books, which have then been distributed to youngsters who unfortunately do not have access to books.”
In a statement, Derby Book Festival said: “We believe that developing a love of books and reading at an early age helps create life-long readers.
“Festival organisers urge local residents to have a clear out at home and collect up any previously loved, but now unwanted, children’s books, ideally for children under the age of eleven.
“One of the festival’s key aims is to encourage a new generation of readers and we firmly believe that it’s never too young for children to start to enjoying books.”
